Session 1

How to Find True Contentment

The old saying ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’, is quite simply not true!

In this first session J.John explains the tenth commandment, helps us understand the problems of materialism, and outlines principles to help us truly find contentment.

Session 2

How to Hold to the Truth

The ninth commandment reminds us that speaking is a serious matter. Honesty in what we say is vital for the health of our society, for our relationships and even for us as individuals. Session Two explores how we can be people who hold to the truth.

Session 3

How to Prosper with a Clear Conscience

Stealing is all around us. Whether open or subtle, personal or impersonal, private or corporate, it is increasingly part and parcel of the way the world operates. In this session, J.John talks about the eighth commandment and uses personal stories to demonstrate biblical principles to help us prosper with a clear conscience.

Session 4

How to Affair-Proof Our Relationships

Sex is inescapable. If you’ve watched any TV, seen any advertisements, listened to the radio, flicked through a magazine, surfed the internet, or read a newspaper, it is there. Session Four speaks to those who are married, single, divorced or widowed, and explains how each of us can flourish in our relationships.

Session 5

How to Manage Our Anger

How unique and valuable is a human life? How should we treat each other? How do we cope with difference and disagreement? In this session, J.John looks at the sixth commandment and brings us back to the basics. How can we really deal with the root cause of anger?

6

Session 6

How to Keep the Peace with Our Parents

One of the most important things we can ever do is be part of a family. Yet most of us drift through, muddling along and only really considering how we are doing when we hit a family crisis. Throughout Session Six, J.John unpacks the key ingredients of family life, focusing on how we relate to our parents and how we relate to our children.

7

Session 7

How to Prevent Burnout

Our modern lifestyles are ruthless and while we like the idea of the Sabbath, we resist the reality of actually observing it. We have become Sabbath-phobic. But ignoring the Sabbath carries a heavy physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual price tag.

8

Session 8

How to Take God Seriously

Names are important. This third commandment is about the disturbing fact that we can – and do – misuse God’s name. The use and misuse of God’s name involves far more than swearing or blasphemy. It concerns the very nature of who God is.

9

Session 9

How to Know God

In this penultimate session, J.John looks at the second commandment on the topic of idolatry. Idolatry occurs when we hold any value, idea or activity higher than God. So, what are the dangers of idolatry? And importantly, how do we know the real God?

Session 10

How to Live by Priorities

Finally, we have arrived at the beginning, at the heart of the commandments: the great rule that we are to have no other gods but the one true and living God. As the sun lies at the centre of the solar system and has planets orbiting around it, so all the other commandments revolve around the first commandment. How do we really put God first in our lives?
